Tuomas Markunpoika

I photographed Virsi Side Table II, a sculptural work by Finnish designer Tuomas Markunpoika that explores transformation and material memory. The title translates to 'hymn' in Finnish.

Working from 3D scans of animal bones, Markunpoika reconstructs organic forms in industrial and synthetic materials. Neither an anatomical study nor a meditation on death, the piece examines what persists afterward, existing as trace and impression. The work sits between design and art, where objects carry a weight beyond their material presence.
